The Free to Dance Experience

Come and dance with us! Bring yourselves, bring your bubs, bring your kids!

We warmly invite children of all ages to join us for a shared dance experience alongside a parent or carer.

This is a space for freedom of expression—an opportunity to listen to your body, move naturally, and connect with both the music and those around you. Gentle mindfulness guidance will be offered throughout to support an enjoyable and present experience, however the floor is yours! Please allow yourself and your child/ren to dance to your hearts content.

There will be a mix of well known music from the past and present, alongside lesser known beats with for example, an African influence or classical piano. The purpose of this is to challenge you, to get out of your head and into your body. To follow the music in your bones rather than the judgments in your mind. Kids will do this much more easily than adults so it truly will be a shared learning experience.

You may hear music you love, and music you don’t. Tunes that are familiar and tunes that are foreign. We encourage you to embrace the full journey—allow yourself to sit with the discomfort of unfamiliar sounds just as much as you enjoy the songs that uplift you. There is value in both.

We also invite you to let your child inspire you, and in turn, allow your own openness to inspire them. As parents and carers, you are powerful role models. Children naturally mirror what they see, and through this experience, we aim to nurture qualities of freedom, spontaneity, self-expression, and connection—both within ourselves and with others. By embodying these qualities, you offer the opportunity for your child to live them too.

Finally, the space will have an expansive area for you to dance and a small cosy corner for you or your child to chill out and relax if wanting a break.

Our Story

As I danced alongside my toddler on the grass at a music festival in 2025, I felt deeply connected to her joy and the freedom to move like nobody was watching. She was dancing her little heart out, and she inspired me. It was magical - something I wanted to recreate. The experience was so rich that I felt compelled to bring more of this into my life.

After this, I went searching for something similar in the form of a class. I looked for anything that encouraged authentic movement or a wild, natural style of dance. I couldn’t find anything tailored to kids, let alone something I could join in with as well. I also wanted to have fun!

I then tried to find a class where both my child and I could participate together. I found that most classes involving adults were designed for very young children, and once children reached toddlerhood, they were expected to join independently. I couldn’t find anything that allowed us to share the experience. The relational connection with my toddler, the freedom of spontaneous movement, and even the unintended benefit of exercise were what inspired me to develop this class.

And so Free to Dance was born.

This dance is for the families.
For the parents who want to delight in their children’s natural curiosity and creativity.
For the parents and carers who want to connect more deeply, without words, with their child.
For the kids who want to run wild.
For the parents who want to let loose.
And for those who just want a bit of exercise too.

The aim is to create an affordable, fun environment where nothing is wrong or incorrect, where everyone and everything is welcome.

If you have any questions, comments, or just want to connect, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
